Awful product and awful customer service

Awful product. I had to fix the door myself after 3 months of use. We™€™ve had it now for 3 years and the magnetron stopped working. Only 1 year warranty, so our $600 microwave didn™€™t even make it 4 years. Customer service has no help and this is a known issue with this model. I will no longer be buying GE appliances after this experience. Not to mention the door handles on our GE refrigerator and dish washer have become loose and pulled off. Not quality products, clearly.

Updated to our new GE Profile Microwave

We are extremely happy with our latest kitchen addition with our new GE Profile Over-The-Range Microwave that replaced our old & battle tested GE Microwave. The door feels very solid and the installation of the unit was quick and easy, also feeling very solid with zero "wiggle" when opening. Capacity is excellent and honestly the biggest challenge, through no fault of GE, is getting used to the new controls and options that are available with this updated Microwave. Like anything it takes a little getting used to as we had our previous one for 5+ years (inherited when we bought the house). The venting of the unit is excellent and the overall heating is uniform and efficient.

This is the third of this specific bottle microwave that I have owned. The first one lasted over 10 years. The second one lasted less than two years. Hopefully, the third one that I just had installed will last as long as the first one. Time will tell.

I am 75 and didn't know if I would like this microwave, but everything on it is easy to figure out! Some people don't like the dial, but I do, it is much easier than punching in numbers but I sometimes forget to push it to set the numbers. My old one was just heat or reheat, I'm still learning how to use it and I'll write later about the convection and air fry options when I get to use them more.

Air fryer stinks.

The microwave function is fine. We have not tried the convection function. The "air fryer" function is extremely disappointing. It seems like a GE after thought. We have a Cuisinart air fryer that puts this one to shame. The included metal rack and metal tray seem totally inappropriate for air frying. The air fryer doesn't brown or toast. It just heats premade food. I don't see that it is and different than the microwave. I can't find any accessories that work with this air fryer. The Quick Guide and downloaded Owners Manual are useless with regards to the air frying function. I am disappointed with GE support. I've contacted them twice and mention that I have the Quick Guide and have downloaded the Owners Manual and their timid response included a link to the downloadable Owners Manual. I wish there was a GE users community so we could share tips on how to use the horrible air fryer function.

So far so good. For unit was DOA. Took another month to get a replacement unit. Have only had this unit a little over a week. There is a rating that the air fryer didn't work. Not True. Works great. Bought this unit because it fit our microwave well. Plus, all of the bells and whistles. So far, we love it. Capacity is great. Controls so far working great. Convection oven is working great. Installation was easy for the installer. Ventilation works great.

CONS: Does not meet expectations for the price paid. The door handle feels cheap, like it could break very easily. Air fry function does not have a preheat option and only goes to 400 degrees. Food does not brown easily with the heating element hidden. Convection option appears to not reach temperature and stay there. Vent does not pull with a lot of force. GE Warranty services need improvements

I have bought a high-end microwave from Home Depot with a protection plan. The microwave broke within one year, and when I reached out to Allstate, they suggested I contact GE Warranty after a 30-minute call. Immediately called GE Warranty, and they put a technician within a week. The technician arrived and indicated that the microwave is broken and requested parts. The technician made an appointment for two weeks later and visited us after the parts arrived. The technician indicated that the defective part had been shipped and left without notifying anyone. No call from GE, and when I reached out to them the next day, the customer service indicated the next appointment is after 3 weeks. Seniors and short people beware!! The controls on this over the range microwave are impossible to see. They are written in such small letters, light print and placed so high that a ladder or a tall person is needed to run the machine. Also if you are a baker and you want to melt butter or chocolate stay away from this one. It starts at 15 seconds You can not set it lower !! This is an expensive and very disappointing machine.

We have used most of the different controls so far. Since it is better equipped than our previous microwave, it takes a little getting used to. The air fryer function has allowed us to eliminate one of our countertop appliances and is my husband™€™s favorite functions. I am looking forward to using the defrost function in the near future. This microwave replaced our old GE Profile Advantium. The reheating of items is great. It took a bit getting used to as the features are different as well as in a different location on the panel than the ones that the previous microwave had. I do wish it had the additional features like reheating pizza slices, popcorn, etc. The size of the oven is a good size. Installation was simple and quick.

Convection oven did not work properly at first, ie, items baked at recipe temp were undercooked. purchased an oven thermometer to test the oven: result was oven took 27mins to reach 345degF (close enough to 350degF!). Note: window read "oven is ready" after 5-6min. Contacted GE: technician tested then increased setting for temp. suggested waiting 10 min beyond the window reading of "oven ready" to put the to-be-baked food into the oven. So the window "ready" sign is not reliable. Our GE Profile microwave-convection oven which we just replaced after 15+ years never had this issue. I'd set the temp to 350degF (or whatever needed temp) and baked per recipe. Why and how is this new model an improvement?

Need Bisque back!

This replaces a GE microwave/convection oven that lasted close to 25 years in my home with daily use. I hope this new one lives up to the old! My only reason for not giving 5 stars was color. My kitchen suite was all in Bisque. I know, no one make Bisque anymore. My best second choice was the lightest stainless I could find and it's such an energy drain as a color. It still feels very dark. The white is too sterile. The Bisque is a warm welcoming color and I don't know why it's been discontinued.

This my second GE Profile convection microwave oven. All good so far, but there are a two issues that keep it from 5star rating. First and most annoying is the loud ventilation fan in any setting especially on low setting. It has a howl noise that is annoying. Secondly, the clock display cannot be dimmed and is too bright.

I bought the pvm9179srss microwave & wish to finish installing it but need the owner's manual to install a filter & have been told it doesn't come with an owner's manual. Have been trying to get copy of owner's manual about half the day now with no luck. Please help!

Product bought from Costco: I switched from Whirlpool to GE Profile. I™€™ve used GE products before and had a good experience, so I decided to go with this model. The product works well overall. My concern: When a product is priced at a premium, the quality should match the price. This is not a functional issue but a quality control issue. GE Profile is marketed as a next-generation product line, but the microwave door on my unit is not properly aligned. While this does not affect functionality, it looks aesthetically off, and appearance also matters.

Just got this microwave. It has a nice large capacity, seems to work great. However, it does not allow me to set a temperature for air fry. I select manual, and then it takes me directly to setting the cooking time, never the temperature (as the directions state it should). It was bought hoping to be able to get rid of our air fryer. So, I'm a bit disappointed it doesn't work as it should. UPDATE: GE replied saying the temperature is set at 425 and you cannot adjust. I have attached the photo of page 21 of the manual where it states you CAN change the temperature in manual mode. Have I missed something ????

Does cooking anything fully

Doesn't matter if I do the bake or airfry setting nothing ever browns. I've even doubled and tripled cook times and still not browning or crisping up anything. Call ge and wasted a whole day waiting for a tech that never showed. Finally a couple wks later a tech came an told me its just how these ovens cook and did like nothing. They leave call ge and tell them that. They call the tech to send them back and had me wait again for them not to return. They call me the next day and schedule a tech again couple wks out. Mean while I have no way to fully cook fo my family for over a month and still waiting

Multi function convenience, standard and convection. Somewhat challenging to learn the controls, as it is very different from the standard microwave we had. Maybe a product if our age too.

I don't like the controls, even my daughter said it looks like they went back in time in design. It should be all electronic, so you have more control and ease of use instead of electronic buttons and dial. It seems a bit cumbersome. Not enough control of choosing cook time and not sure what the power settings mean. Wish the capacity was a bit bigger and had a second rack. I couldn't find an option to buy a second rack. The manual doesn't explain hardly anything and doesn't give any instructions for the air fry option. Should have more sensing options and reheat options, as there are only a few. On the positive side, I like it being stainless steel inside, it does heat well, and the convection works great, however I wish it beeped when the convection baking time runs out. The ventilation is better than the microwave it replaced with the vents running vertically on the side instead of horizontally on the back. The light is much brighter as well.

I wasn™€™t sure that the air fry feature would be adequate. Many reviewers complained about frozen fries, hash browns, chicken not being crispy and that the controls being difficult to use. I have no experience with a dedicated air fryer so I was hoping this would do the job because I don™€™t want to take up additional counter space with another appliance. I™€™m very satisfied with the air fryer and I really like the dial control. Also the over the stove light and the fan are excellent. Installation was a breeze since I purchased it through COSTCO and it was delivered, old unit removed and new one installed and I didn™€™t break a sweat.
